Psychotherapy, therapy or counseling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve, explore, and/or understand invasive or intrusive thoughts, problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses. Therapy is not meant to advise, although recommendations may be made on the client's behalf based on the information the client reports and the clinician's observations.

Therapy sessions are one hour (50-53min), virutal or face-to-face. Weekly sessions are typically recommended to help the provider get a understanding of the client, the presenting concerns, and to build rapport.

Sex therapists work with other professional to obtain the best treatment for their clients.

Many sex therapists work within a biopsychosocial model which helps maintain a balance of interdisciplinary (medical, mental health, physical therapy, etc) services and serves the client as a whole. This means that an open line of communication between the medical provider and mental health provider is necessary. It is always in a client’s best interest to work with both parties in a joint effort to help improve the quality of life of the client.

Sex therapists also provide sexual health education and consultation.

Somatic Therapy Session

In Person

Somatic experiencing involves present moment awareness and explores bodily tension, gestures, and body sensations through a combination of awareness dialogue, very gentle movement, and/or touch. The element of touch will only be offered with prior permission from the client, and can be eliminated from sessions if that is the client’s preference.

With the client’s input and open dialogue throughout, they will be offered an array of body awareness techniques during these sessions such as guided breathwork, numerous meditation techniques, progressive muscle relaxation, tremoring, Light Healing Touch or Reiki, Yoga Thai bodywork, and therapeutic yoga practices. We start with establishing awareness and work toward building greater integration between our minds, bodies, and nervous systems.

Reiki

In Person

Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing technique now commonly used for stress reduction and relaxation. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through every being. The word Reiki is comprised of two Japanese words - “Rei”, which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and “Ki” which is "life force energy". Therefore, Reiki is regarded as "spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit.

Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady, and it also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to reap the benefits of this healing energy work.

Thai Yoga Bodywork

In Person

Thai Yoga Bodywork, also known as "Assisted Yoga" is a form of bodywork that combines dynamic assisted stretching influenced by Yoga, and physical pressure (compression) along energy (meridian) lines influenced by Chinese acupuncture (from Traditional Chinese Medicine or “TCM”) as well as Ayurveda, Yoga’s “sister science”.

Thai Yoga Bodywork helps improve flexibility, increases circulation, and aids in balancing the recipient’s flow of energy. Performed with the client fully clothed, the body is supported, stretched and kneaded…all YOU need to do is lay on the comfortable Thai floor mat in loose, comfortable clothes! (Unlike a Swedish massage, oil is not used and wearing loose, comfortable clothing is strongly recommended). The practitioner will use her hands (palms), thumbs, elbows, heels, and knees to stretch, compress, and rock different parts of your body.

Clients can expect to build strength, improve balance, increase flexibility/mobility, and most importantly: Get better acquainted with their own body and its unique abilities!

Pranayama & Meditation

Virtual

Participants will be introduced to beginner-friendly, guided yogic breathing and meditation practices. This practice is ideal any time of day to help you unwind, de-stress, and more efficiently energize the flow of prana, also known as "vital life force" in your body and mind. Participants may relax in their preferred cozy space and are welcome to participate off-camera.

Couples Yoga: Communicate, Re-Connect, & Grow

These sessions begin with a baseline dialogue check in with the provider regarding safe boundaries and language/communication (i.e., invitational and accepting language instead of harsh, demanding, or judgmental words and phrases). Before the practice begins, time will be set aside to welcome input from the clients regarding how they would like to be guided through their shared experience.

The provider will then invite the couple to find a resting posture that is comfortable and accessible for them. They are then guided through present moment body and breath awareness, heart centering, and (mostly seated) accessible partnered yoga postures.

If clients are inclined to welcome non-sexual “safe touch” in a neutral environment, the provider will guide them through Yoga Thai bodywork they can learn to offer one another as a way to begin to re-connect physically without any sexually based expectations. There is no agenda or finite “end goal” -this is simply a combined effort to re-connect on a physical level in a new, meaningful way to nurture the relationship and “grow” from there without any looming timelines. The elements of “Vinyasa Krama” or “step by step, one single step at a time” will be the guiding tone and theme during each session.

Nutrition

Shelby

Our vision is a one that includes the role of diet in supporting mental health. Food impacts the way we feel and what we eat is influencd by how we feel and how we are expereincing the world. With our dietitian you may examine the relationship between your dietary and nutrient intake patterns, mood, behavior, and mental health. This process is focused on facilitating psychological skills and intrinsic motivation, rather than prescribing diets. In conjunction with the therapist, Shelby helps to guide individuals through a process that develops their perceptual, cognitive, and psychological skills in and understanding of how their dietary intake patterns may be contributing to the way they feel or how food patterns and responses are a direct result of what is being felt or experienced or what has been created as a result of past trauma. The aim of this process is to boost awareness towards food choices supportive of mental health.
